History of the Get A-Head Charitable Trust
On the 20th January, 1994 John Watkinson and Adrian Drake-Lee, together with the help of Peter Scudamore, cancer patient Roy Castle, Tim Munton and the Warwickshire Cricketers formed 'Get A-Head'. The aim at that time was to raise £1m in three years to fund education, research and purchase of vital medical equipment. Over the years, Get A-Head has funded various research projects relating to thyroid cancer.
We've purchased over £500,000 worth of equipment, providing much needed support to the hospital ward, East 5.
Funding is also provided by Get A-Head to offer our patients FREE complementary therapies such as Reflexology & Aromatherapy and now Acupuncture & Chinese Massage. The benefits these treatments afford our patients is illustrated in greater detail on our Patients Support Group area.

Over the years...
We have raised a whopping £2 million pounds which has been used to fund all of the above but we are now more forward thinking and wish to send our message out to more people. We re-launched in May 2006 and our new website has inclusions that are patient-centred, not to mention the accessible tools to donate either a one-off payment online or set up a regular standing order.
We need to continually raise the awareness of our work and strive for a better way of life for all who come through the doors here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
