Education
Get A-Head has a strong commitment to education and research into medical practice. Besides research and basic sciences it also provides two scholarships a year to sponsor doctors in training who wish to undertake courses at universities within the West Midlands as part of their professional development.
We looked to the broader issues in health care and have sponsored six doctors and work with the West Midlands Postgraduate Deanery to do this.
So far we have supported Mr Hugh Griffiths in his study of Medical Law, Mr Ude Kale's M.A. in Medical Ethics and Law, Mr Chris Ayshford in finishing his project for a MSc in Quality Issues in Health Care and another three doctors complete their Masters in Medical Science!
We encourage interested trainees to find courses to suit their needs and our students are registered at the Universities of Birmingham, Warwick, Keele, Wolverhampton and Glasgow. Get A-Head is committed to sponsoring professional development in its widest aspects and fulfils a commitment in training, research and education

Here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital we regularly conduct research projects on the work already undergone in the last 11 years including data analysis on various operations performed by Mr John Watkinson.
Mr John Watkinson has worked as a Head and Neck and Thyroid Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham since 1992. He has a major interest in head and neck surgery but specifically thyroid surgery. He is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in 1997 established the Birmingham International Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Course.
