Prosthetics Department at the QEH

Loss of facial tissue, form and or function can occur through surgery to remove disease, through trauma and burns or might be a condition from birth. Some of these cases can be reconstructed using ever improving surgical techniques. However significant numbers of people will not be suitable for this type of procedure or will not have access to sound surgical expertise. Others may not wish to begin the often lengthy and numerous operations the surgical option would entail.

As part of the Head and Neck team the Prosthetics Department runs one of the largest head and neck prosthetics programmes in the world, specialising particularly in implant retained prostheses. Consisting of eight full-time staff the Prosthetists work very closely with the other Multi-Disciplinary Head and Neck team members, offering help and advice from the patients first visit as well as a comprehensive reconstruction service. The open and friendly ethos of the department helping to improve lives.
