Patients support group
The Get A-Head Patients' Support Group was formed in 1993 by Mr John Watkinson, Stella Tura and a handful of patients. Its aim at that time was to provice a support service to patients and their carers but quickly developed into more of a social group. However, it does still provide a link for patients and their carers to meet up, discuss achievements and problems and generally have a bit of fun! Of course, not all patients want to get involved, but many do.
The Patients' Group (we've now dropped the word 'support' to avoid confusion) is not primarily a fund-raising organisation, however over the years, some members have enjoyed fund-raising on a smaller scale (bric-a-brac sales, raffles, skittles nights, etc), in order to provide a few "extras" which cannot be supplied by the National Health nor the main Charity Appeal but do improve the quality of patients' lives.
A 'committee' meets four times a year at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, this is not an elected body, but just a group of interested people who discuss items of interest to patients and their families. We are always keen on having new ideas and members.
All meetings are held on a Wednesday evenings at 5.15 pm in ENT Outpatients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
